Covina Sunrise Rotary Club, established on April 2, 1982, has long been considered a “Jewel in the Crown” of local service organizations, particularly through its signature philanthropic project, Operation Santa Clothes. In keeping with our commitment to transparency and integrity, we must inform you of a serious financial matter involving our club.

While reviewing our financial documents, the Club President identified irregularities suggesting that a long‑standing member, who has also served as both a past president and as club treasurer, may have misappropriated club funds over an extended period of time. The President promptly brought these concerns to the attention of the Club Treasurer and Board of Directors, and an internal review was initiated.

The internal review concluded that there is credible evidence indicating that this individual may have diverted club funds for personal use, including funds designated for charitable purposes. In light of the seriousness of these findings, the Board of Directors determined that it was necessary to report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement authorities and to cooperate fully with any ensuing investigation.

The Board has also taken immediate steps to protect the club’s assets and to strengthen our financial controls. These measures include restricting access to club bank accounts, requiring dual signatures for disbursements, engaging an independent review of recent financial activity, and implementing stricter oversight and reporting procedures for all financial transactions.

We recognize that this news is deeply troubling, particularly given the trust placed in our club’s leadership and the importance of our mission in the community. We share your disappointment and concern that someone in a position of responsibility within our club may have betrayed that trust and compromised the resources intended to support our service projects and charitable work.

At the same time, we want to acknowledge and commend the actions of the Club President and other leaders who responded to these concerns with transparency, integrity, and courage in identifying these issues and bringing them to the attention of the proper authorities.

We understand that you may have questions. As this matter is now under active investigation, there may be limits on what can be discussed publicly, but we will share additional information with members as we are able. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the ideals of Rotary during this difficult time.
