Sunrise Rotary had its 2021 Holiday Party in December and Santa Claus came and a good time was had by all. For some unbeknownst reason our regular meeting location was locked up when we arrived for our annual Christmas Breakfast. With some lightning quick thinking and some good restaurant friends we were able to relocate to Millie’s Restaurant for our Holiday Bash. The kids were worried that Santa Claus would not be able to find us but lo and behold he showed up with a big bag full of presents....(read more)

On June 27, 2020, incoming CSR president Cicero Salmon opened the kickout party hosted at Robert Avila's house. Social distancing was suggested and it offered "...Libations, food, entertainment, jokes, prizes and more. An enjoyable casual get-together to celebrate the end to Bill Higleys presidential term." Although masks were optional, it appears that all came through without a single Covid-19 case!
During these difficult times, CSR has continued its philanthropic activities, the latest being strong support for the Project 29:11 foodbank in Covina. And practicing measures to protect our members, our weekly...(read more)

It is with heavy heart, we must report that starting on March 18, 2020, the mighty Covina Sunrise Rotary Club will not be having its regular meetings for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, it has been decided that our upcoming events, including the Disco At The Barn (May 16th) are now cancelled.
It was inevitable. In the first few months of 2020, CSR was off to a great start, planning events, inducting new members, having a great time... then it happened: The world started going insane from a microscopic visitor from Wuhan,...(read more)

On June 8th, 2018, Covina Sunrise Rotary suffered a monumental loss - one of our own, Hugh Ledford, left us peacefully in his sleep. Although Hugh has been fighting for his life at City of Hope for several years, his time had come to pass. Hugh has been a Charter Member of CSR from its origin in 1982 and was a keystone of its existence ever since. On March 20, 2018, the "Ladies of CSR" decided to recognize the 30th anniversary of women being allowed in Rotary. Basically asking the male members of CSR to walk a mile few steps in their shoes. With help from district members, a collection of high heel shoes and feather boas were distributed to the guys. Not all opted to don the distaff garb, deciding that a $60 alternative "donation" to the Rotary Foundation would be worth the possibility of a pulled hamstring. Some of the "dancers" seemed strangely experienced in...(read more)

On June 24, 2017 ol' President Avila was semi-ceremoniously discharged from his lofty office as CSR President. The event was held at the home of Ms. Shannon Hidalgo who coincidentally was kicked IN as Robert's successor. The party was fully booked as revelers consumed massive amounts of food and quaffed assorted libations, followed by a roast-like program to certify the passing of the gavel. The program continued with a video tribute to Robert's year (see it HERE) as well as a reprise video of his performance in a sequence...(read more)

June 2016 saw the end of an empire. One that had flourished successfully under the guiding hand of Sal Flores-Chatfield, taking CSR to a new level. He initiated the "Rotary Moments" where members pointed out an event that was impacted by their association with the Club. His year had witnessed the growth of the Club, particularly with the inclusion of the R'futures Club for the millenials. Other projects, such as the Rosarito Project where backpacks and shoes were distributed, went very well. The Club's fame was exemplified by the huge...(read more)
